Honour for defeating disability

Anish Goyal is a portfolio manager who trades in financial markets for a multi-national bank in London. An MBA from Wharton University, Anish has fought blindness since he was nine when his vision started failing. Trained as a drummer and a writer at heart, the 30-year-old was honoured with a national award by President Pratibha Patil on Friday along with 52 other real-world bravehearts who defeated their disability to make it big in life.

Assam NGO organizes daylong jobs fair for disabled

A Guwahati-based non-government organization (NGO) recently organized a daylong jobs fair for the disabled.

The Career Access 2010 is the brainchild of the NGO Shishu Sarothi.

It is supported and sponsored by the Chennai-based Ability Foundation, naukri.com and various other government institutions.

Over 300 candidates from eleven states turned up in the hope of joining 27 participating firms in sectors like retail, insurance, IT and telecommunications.

Pritam Bora is from Sivasagar in Assam and is a post-graduate in information technology. He suffers from paralysis and found the fair a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a suitable job.

Viklang Melo benefits 21,000 differently-abled in Gujarat - India - DNA


Over 21,000 differently-abled people have been provided supplementary organs and aid worth Rs2.5 crore at a Viklang Melo organised at five talukas of Patan. The Mela was organised jointly by the Patan District collectorate and Ratna Nidhi Trust, an NGO.

The trust has organised camps at Patan, Siddhpur, Radhanpur, Harij and Sankheshwar under the private-public partnership programme of the state government.

Good response to ‘Badhte Kadam’ mission

Badhte Kadam, the innovative outreach programme of National Trust, met with encouraging response from people in seven districts of Assam, enabling the spread of awareness on disability issues.

In the concluding function of the campaign held here, it was revealed that more than 1,500 people were duly informed about crucial aspects related to the disabled, and also about the rights and privileges available to them. Seeking to convey the message, the Badhte Kadam team held rallies, enacted street plays and held meetings in dozens of places in the districts, which elicited a very good response from the public.

Creating history, Khade wins bronze in Asiad

Indian swimmer Virdhawal Khade grabbed a niche in the Indian histroty by clinching a bronze in the 50m butterfly event in Asian Games 2010 on Tuesday, Nov 16.

This is the first time in last twenty four years that any Indian swimmer held any medal in Asian Games.
